Automotive Advantage Offers the MotorVac™ Service
(See below for coupon)
Why is a MotorVac CarbonClean™ Service Needed?
During normal operations fuel systems and combustion areas in gasoline and diesel powered engines can become contaminated with gums, varnishes, and
carbon buildup. This contamination clogs fuel filters, reduces fuel flow, distorts fuel spray patterns, limits fuel atomization, and decreases combustion efficiency.
This contamination leads to an erosion and gradual loss of horsepower, a reduction in engine torque, increased fuel usage, excessive emissions, and smoke.
The typical symptoms of engine contamination are:
Poor driveability
Hesitations
Flat spots
Rough idle
|
Hard starting
Lack of power
Poor fuel economy
Excessive emissions
|
To combat engine contamination, petroleum refiners have developed additives and detergents to keep fuel systems clean. This slows the buildup rate of fuel deposits such as oxidized hydrocarbons and olefins. However, most of these additives do not impede the normal buildup of inorganic fuel deposits such as sulfates and oxides of metals.
Studies by major oil companies, as well as independent laboratories and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) suggest that no additive is completely effective in cleaning already contaminated fuel systems. Studies have also shown that some additives actually contribute to carbon buildup in the fuel system and combustion chambers. The symptoms of engine contamination often develop slowly over time. Their onset, frequency and severity are highly variable. Factors which influence the frequency and severity of symptoms include:
Fuel composition and quality
Vehicle operating conditions
Length of trips
Engine loads
Constant versus intermittent use
|
|
Engine speeds
Engine operating temperatures
Engine design
Fuel system design
Maintenance practices
|
Traditional approaches to dealing with these symptoms typically involve time consuming engine diagnosis that is both expensive and ineffective. Engine components are replaced, timing adjustments are made, and engine components are disassembled for cleaning. Even fuel injectors may be replaced, which requires many hours of labor and the added cost of new or rebuilt components.
The concept of chemically cleaning fuel systems and combustion areas without engine disassembly is only now accepted as a viable alternative to engine repairs.
